In the extreme we sometimes see the truth. Were it not for revolutionary viewpoints no societal change would happen. The inherently obnoxious screaming and yelling of radicals is often the only way they get heard. Those that first proposed workers rights had to strike to convince others. By taking the hyperbolic, the ultimate, the paragon, we can effect change.
For this reason I believe that feminism is still very necessary. Without extreme view points and watchdogs for women's rights, injustice can easily slip through our fingers. Any instance of misogyny should not be laughed away, but should be taking as a step backward for women's rights. Until, as one news commentator said, we do not speak of appointing a "Latina woman judge to Supreme court," but just a "judge," the fight is not over. Feminism cannot and should not be dead.
I aim with this blog to document what happens in the life of an undergrad from a feminist perspective. To say that I do not wish to be violent or iconoclastic is tempting, but it is not the truth. Only with uncompromising perseverance will the fight be won.
